The Ocheyedan Press-Melvin News is a family-owned publication located in Ocheyedan, Iowa. It is an official paper for Osceola County, the cities of Melvin and Ocheyedan and the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community School District. The Press-News has won many state and national awards, and is a member of the Iowa Newspaper Association, National Newspaper Association and American Newspaper Representatives.

This area is located two miles south of Ocheyedan. The 33 acre area has electricity, drinking water, pit toilets, picnicking, hiking, fishing, and swimming opportunities available. The area also has 25 acres of surface water.

Location: 2 miles South of Ocheyedan

Features: Picnic shelter, rest rooms, water, camping, fishing, swimming and nature trails. Wildlife Management Area behind park open to public hunting during season. No firearms or shooting any other time.

Operating Hours & Seasons: Year round

Closures: Park closes at 10:30 P.M.

The Ocheyedan Public library was started in 1912. The present day library building was built in 1970. The library originally had 600 books, today it has more than 15, 890 books.

The Osceola County Conservation Board maintains 8 parks, and 40 preserves and wildlife management areas conveniently located throughout the county. these areas offer many and varied recreational activities including: picnicing, camping, swimming, hunting, fishing, softball, volleyball, tennis, horseback riding and many others.

The Conservation Board focuses on education and has a Nature Center/Lodge/Classroom Complex At Willow Creek Park.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is charged with meeting the Public Safety needs of its residents and visitors by providing county-wide law enforcement. The Sheriff maintains the county jail, provides courtroom security, and prisoner transport. It also investigates all criminal offenses such as: drug investigations, burglaries, theft, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, and child abuse. The Sheriff's Office handles all civil process such as condemnations, abandoned vehicles, and evictions. The Sheriff's Office has a county-wide radio and telecommunication center and responds to hazardous material events and clandestine methamphetamine lab sites. It also maintains a K-9 unit, teaches D.A.R.E. and other educational safety programs for its youth. It also enforces all traffic laws and investigates motor vehicle accidents.
